• Further details: The music and words were written by RABINDRANATH TAGORE (1861-1941) during the movement against the partition of Bengal effected by Lord Curzon in 1905. Later it was widely sung during the struggle for independence against Pakistan, and was adopted as a National Anthem by the then provisional Bangladesh government in April 1971, and approved by the National Assembly on January 13 1972.
